1. Character Image in Les Miserables from book to musical						
			章亜菲　（大東文化大学大学院）			
						
"  Les Miserables is a musical (the French version in 1980 in Paris, the English in 1985 in London) 
based on the novel (1862) of the same name by the French poet and playwright, Victor Hugo. 
This presentation will compare the character images of Les Miserables as a 19th century novel and
as a 20th century West End musical. Though of interest, the French version of the musical will not
be considered, as all succeeding versions of the musical in other languages have been based on the
English rather than the French. Differences in characterization between the book and the musical 
will be analyzed from the viewpoint of comparative culture. It will be shown that the musical book
portrays the ugliness of human nature in much more detail, whereas the English musical focuses on 
the basic goodness of all humans. Particularly striking examples will concern Eponine and her parents,
Mr and Mrs Thenardier who become rather more attractive in the musical as compared with the book. 

Significant differences will also be seen in the portrayal of Cossette and Marius. It will, therefore,
be maintained that 20th century cultural expectations of what represents entertainment has resulted in
changes in the way the characters are presented. "						
						
2. トニ・モリスン『パラダイス』に見る歴史とフェミニズム：						
　　世代間の葛藤と次世代への応答

"　公民権運動から約半世紀が過ぎた今日、黒人であることや女性であることは「必然」ではなく、
多々ある選択肢の中から「選んだ」結果であるとするポスト・ソウル、ポスト・フェミニズムと
呼ばれる新しい世代の作家が台頭してきている。このような潮流に対し、アメリカ黒人であり女性
であることを受け入れ、黒人女性として生きる大切さを描いてきた公民権運動世代の黒人女性作家
たちは、どのような反応を示しているのだろうか。
　公民権運動世代に属するトニ・モリスン（Toni Morrison, 1931- ）は、新世代の作家たちの台頭
が顕著になった後に発表した『パラダイス』（Paradise, 1998）において、不可視化された黒人の歴史、
父権社会とフェミニズムの対立などを描き出した。『パラダイス』は次世代の作家たちが築いた潮流
をも取り込むことで、公民権運動世代の黒人女性作家が大切にした伝統を発展させる取り組みであり、
次世代作家への応答であったことを論じる。"						
						
3. 音読と黙読では聴解力成績に伸長度の差は見られるか

"　近年の英語教育研究や現場においてもっとも盛んに取り上げられているものの一つとして、学習者の
音読作業が挙げられる。
　ところで、これまでに音読や黙読作業と読解力成績の伸長度を比較検討した研究は母語と第二言語の
両分野において多数存在する一方で、音読や黙読作業と聴解力成績を比較検討した研究はほとんど見ら
れない。
　本研究では、私立大学の学生を対象に音読群と黙読群の間で聴解力成績の伸長度に差異があるかに
ついて比較、分析を行った。その結果、レベルの上位群、下位群ともに、黙読群のみに聴覚力成績に
有意な差が見られた。このことは、昨今話題になっている音読作業と比べても、黙読作業に同等以上
の効果があることを示唆していると言える。本発表ではその理由について、認知的要因に加え、学習者
レベルや学習者態度などの要因も考慮しながら考察する。"
